Situated in the Klein Karoo, 44km south-west of Ladismith, Western Cape, Two access points to farm:  Via Ladismith – 44kms of which 22km is tar road and the rest is good condition sand/gravel road. Maintained regularly by municipality.  Other access is via Plathuis sand/gravel road (25km) from the Route 62 (between Barrydale and Ladismith).

80% veld -20% arable (Arable land about 60ha) plus areas reclaimable between the valleys est. 80ha. at least e.g. for  fruit frees, olives, jojoba, nuts, etc. Total estimated arable: 140ha. Mountains / veld: 540ha, divided into 3 big camps. Veld karroo veld and bush.  Entire farm is fenced e.g. stock proofing.

Water – boreholes - Irrigation methods

4x Boreholes (only one in use and required to date). Water and soil analysis available. 2,5ha under dripper for vegetables. Lucern - approx. 40 Quick Coupling pipes and sprinklers. Mother line laid for approximately 80 percent of arable fields. Taps at strategic points for quick coupling pipes and sprinklers.  Borehole water used for both human and animal consumption. Very pure – no filtration required.

1 – Dompelpomp - 24,000 litres per hour. Could be increased as borehole is very strong.

Lei water from irrigation scheme

56.9 ha listed with Prinsrivier Water Scheme (flood irrigation).  Used mainly in growing summer season for lucern.

Fruit and Vegetables (type and hectares)

8 ha for cash crops e.g. Pumpkins, beans, beetroot, cabbage, carrots, boer pampoen, onions,  watermelon, butternuts, spanspek, etc. Have agreement with market in Riversdale to fetch all vegetables and fruit and sell. Selling also to Spar, Nissens, Check-in, and have also sold to various outlets in Barrydale, Montague and Robertson in the past. Grape Vineyard – not at present - but was very successful in the past. (about 8ha now used for vegetables).  Excellent organic quality – free from pests. Have not used fertilizer (only manure) or insecticides for 3 years.

Lucern, oats, mielies, etc. (hectares)

22 ha lucern currently established under sprinkler irrigation (and lei water). 12 additional hectares could be prepared for more lucern. If vegetable lands were converted to lucern, total area would be 48 hectares. There is also another 5ha lucern under flood irrigation – could be properly utilised if main waterline was extended another 500 metres.

Livestock - Type and number

Very successful in past - Carrying capacity of veld is 60. 10ha per SSU. Lambing camps, sheep dip area, lamb grazing areas x 2. Currently farming with Boerbokke and pigs.

Livestock - Cattle - Dairy - type and number

Milkshed and 2 x paddock areas.  Dairy production ceased November 2004 – all milk was sold to Ladismith Cheese factory in the past.
