8 ha for cash crops e.g. Pumpkins, beans, beetroot, cabbage, carrots, boer pampoen, onions, watermelon, butternuts, spanspek, etc. Had agreement with market in Riversdale to fetch all vegetables and fruit and sell. Selling also to Spar, Nissens, Check-in, and have also sold to various outlets in Barrydale, Montague and Robertson in the past. Excellent organic quality – free from pests. Have not used fertilizer (only manure) or insecticides for 7 years.
6 ha lucern currently established under sprinkler irrigation (and lei water). Approximately 20 additional hectares could be prepared for more lucern. If vegetable lands were converted to lucern, total area would be 40 hectares. There is also another 5ha lucern under flood irrigation – could be properly utilised if main waterline was extended another 500 metres.
Very successful in past - Carrying capacity of veld is 60. 10ha per SSU. Lambing camps, sheep dip area, lamb grazing areas x 2. Currently farming with Boerbokke and pigs.
